Welcome to our club!

Jack and Rita Donaldson were visiting their youngest daughter, Kathy and her family in April of 1984. Jack took Chris, the 8 years old for a long walk, they walked through the fields (west) and came upon Shelter Valley Creek. The owner of the 26 acre parcel was building a stone dam at the time. Jack told her he thought she had a beautiful property. Marion, the owner, asked Jack if he was interested in buying it. He said "would I ever!!" and immediately went back and spoke to Rita and a deal was struck.

They moved down to the little house on the creek on May 1st 1984.  Jack, a lifelong golfer, thought that land west of the creek was crying out for a golf hole. They designed and built the course with great sensitivity to nature, initially it was meant to be enjoyed by family and friends only. They left large tracts for birds of all kinds;  herons, rose-breasted grosbeaks, animals such as deer, foxes, rabbits and many beautiful wildflowers as well as mature trees. Jack and Rita spent many happy hours with the help of family and friends, including 15 grandchildren over the years building, raking, picking stones, etc. etc.

The year 2000 marked the first year the course was open to the public. Pete's Place (so named by Jack to honour the love of his life, "Pete" a childhood nickname for Rita) became Shelter Valley Creek Golf Course. The course today is run by Jack and Rita's daughter, Kathy her husband Alex and son Chris and Kathy's brother, James is on hand for tournaments.
